Sha’ashua Lab 1: “Emergence”

Who are we deep down? What frees us? What emerges when we follow our impulses? Charged with such questions the very first Sha’ashua Lab led us into a deep exploration of Grotowski’s corporels and plastiques, improvisational stick work, authentic movement and ecstatic dance.

The result was a multitude of encounters with the river of inner imagery which carried us through placid and rapid waters towards a surprising landscape of vocal and physical compositions. Each evening we embarked a new journey. Each evening we brought home more discoveries made out on and in the river.

Lab participants: Sheryl Clowes, Lena Beska, Lucy Woodford, Jo Smithson, Alice Robinson, Harry Kingham, Emma Hirons, Dee Shepherd, Duncan Stuart, Gemma Flannery, Leor Holtzman, Abigail Warren, Bryan Fewtrell.

“This has quite possibly been one of the most meaningful and wonderful experiences I have participated in, inspiring me both personally and professionally. It has given me great insight into aspects of my self and motivated my creativity again. Let’s hope there is much more to come of Jessica and her innovative labs at Hope Street - it has been journey that I feel all artists should attend. It has been a real feast!”
