Art as Transformation

Creative processes are alchemical processes through which we illuminate the unconscious realms of the psyche and transmute darkness into light ... dirt into gold. Creativity can deeply enriches our lives. It can enable us to create meaning, it can help us to reconcile opposites and to heal opposition. As one of the world’s foremost researchers of creativity, psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (1996) affirms, when we are creative we can fly, flow, taste infinity, experience great exhilaration and deep fulfillment.

Since 2004 I have been involved in arts and health work with
Lime, Manchester, and Sefton MBCl / Sefton Primary Care Trust, coordinating and delivering arts projects, and researching the impact of arts practice upon the participants’ well-being and health. I am currently the Arts Officer of the Sefton wide ‘arts on prescription’ project Creative Alternatives. Download the latest reports from Creative Alternatives here:

Creative Alternatives - year 1 (2007, 1mb)

year 2 (2008, 2mb)

More recently I have initiated the Sha’ashua Performance Labs which offer small groups of people the opportunity to explore the interconnected roots of their creativity, sense of self, identity and well-being.
